Scarce 1937 reimagining of an iconic deco age map of Paris updated to incorporate modern sports and new buildings.

An uncommon late c. 1937 reimagining of an iconic tourist pocket map of Paris, France. Presented as a same field birds-eye view, this map centers on the Seine River, and covers the heart of modern Paris. Although ostensibly designed as a subway map, this map offers much more, with important buildings and monuments shown in profile, including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Sacre-Coeur, the Pantheon, etc. Here the traditional map has been updated considerably to reflect modern aesthetics and interests. Gone are the city wall and the quaint images of surrounding villages. Instead Paris is set in a greed field with important buildings, both historic and modern are noted. The author has also incorporated sporting events ranging from soccer in St. Ouen, to Bicycling in the Velodrome Buffalo, to horse racing in the Bois de Boulogne, and more. Although most examples of this map are undated we can assign an approximate date due to the development of the Metro system and the map's overall style and construction. In this expression of the map line 1 extends to Pont de Neuilly and Line 3 extends from Porte de Champerret to Pont de Levallois, both of which were completed in 1937. Engraved by L. Poulmarie. Redrawn and pubished by Gaston Maillet.
