This is a 1909 planning survey map for the Permas Rubber Estate and Company. The map details the modern day upper middle class housing estate of (Bandar Baru Permas Jaya), in the Malaysian city of Jahor. As this map reveals, the Permas Rubber plantation occupied a strategic location on the northern part of the Strait of Jahore (Tebrau Strait) just across form the Sembawang district of Singapore. Rubber trees are noted in various block sections and identified by age – important data for the fledgling plantation since rubber trees have productive lifespan of only aobut 25-30 years. The Permas Rubber Company was subsequently registered in 1910 and operated until 1957, during which time they became one of the largest exporters of rubber in British Malaya. This map was surveyed by Williams, Draper, and Steadman, Civil Engineers and Surveyors.
Very good. Original fold lines exhibit minor wear.
