Description
This is a c. 1963 Nhựt Báo dân ý Tranh - Đấu Cho Ý Dân pictorial economic map of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). Pictorial icons highlight aspects of Vietnam's economy, and photographs illustrate South Vietnam's advances. This map was published by Dân ý, one of several South Vietnamese Daily active during the Vietnam War that went defunct with Saigon's transition to communism.
A Closer Look
Depicting the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) from the 17th parallel south to the South China Sea, provinces are shaded, and major cities are labeled. Symbols illustrate Vietnamese economic activities and assets. These vary from the traditional rice paddies and other crops to factories and ports unloading cargo ships. Photographs along the right and left sides highlight factories that make plywood, soft drinks, cement, a power station, and Saigon's port.Publication History and Census
This map was created and published by Nhựt Báo dân ý Tranh - Đấu Cho Ý Dân (People's Opinion Daily - Fighting for the People's Will) c. 1965. As the piece is undated, and information concerning the newspaper has eluded our research efforts, the date is an estimate.Condition
