Huys, Frans (sold)


Frans Huys (1600 - 1661) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, and broker, whose work appeared in Amsterdam (1625 - 1629), Leiden (1629 - 161636), and Rotterdam (1647 - 1661). Virtually nothing is known of his education and history beyond his works.

This is a rare, beautifully engraved, and influential c. 1630 Frans Huys and Peter Bast map of Leiden, The Netherlands, at the time of Rembrandt. It is one of just two known examples of the map, in this state, and is unrecorded in institutional collections. (more details)
