Revenson, Maxwell (sold)
Maxwell Revenson (January 2, 1926 - November 2, 1966) was a graphic artist and humorist active in New York during the second half of the 20th century. Revenson was from the Midwood section of Brooklyn, New York. He was recognized early for his artistic talent and enrolled in the New York High School for Music and Art. He then completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia University before serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II (1939 - 1945). After the war, he enrolled in the Yale MFA program (1951). Revenson was an editor of both the Yale Record and the Yale Literary Magazine. He married Joyce Blitman (1931 - 2020) in 1951, a few months before being awarded his MFA. During his MFA studies, he produced a pictorial map of Yale with Herbert Brook (1909 - 1994) while still a student (1950). He also composed artwork for the Patty Duke Game, issued in 1963. He died unexpectedly in 1966 of a heart attack.

This is a 1950 Herbert Brook pictorial map of Yale University. The map depicts Yale's campus from Sheffield Square and the Grove Street Cemetery and from Park Street to Temple Street. Specific colleges are identified all over campus, including Pierson College, Davenport College, Branford College, Saybrook College, Trumbull College, Berkeley College, Silliman College, Timothy Dwight College, and Calhoun College. Each of these colleges is also illustrated by its coat of arms. Numerous other buildings throughout campus are illustrated in profile and labeled, including Sterling Law School, the Graduate School, Sterling Memorial Library, the Engineering school, and the School of Fine Arts. Halls, chapels, and fraternities are also noted. Yale's mysterious yet famous secret societies also appear, including Wolf's Head, Skull and Bones, Scroll and Key, and Book and Snake. An air of comradery is evident, thanks in part to the many vignettes of students going about their daily lives: attending class, playing sports at Payne Whitney Gym, listening to the Wiffenpoofs, Yale's men's acapella group, and relaxing. Vignettes are placed along the border illustrating Yale's football team playing on Walter Camp Field, Yale's track team, polo team, tennis, golf, ice hockey, crew, and baseball. (more details)
