1835 Manuscript Map of Bangka Island, Indonesia.

This is a lovely c.1835 manuscript map of Bangka Island near Sumatra, Indonesia. It covers the island as well as the adjacent Pulau Lepar Island in beautiful detail. According to the note in the lower right quadrant, this map is most likely based on ‘Crawford’s Indian Archipelago, 1820’. The map is beautifully detailed with several important rivers, towns and cities identified. A legend below the title in the left margin lists the dimensions of the island as the recent history of the island – ‘Ceded to England in 1812, Exchanged for Cochin 1816’. Exhibits fine calligraphy.
