This is the 1862 map of the Colorado Territory compiled by Francis M. Case for the General Land Office. It is considered the second official map of the Colorado Territory, following Case's earlier map of 1861. This is an elegant 1744 chart of Pensacola Harbor in Florida by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin. It is among the earliest available charts of the bay and harbor and identifies the locations of Fort St. Charles and Fort St. Rose. Bellin also notes important coastal features, including reefs, soundings, and anchorages.
Bellin originally prepared this map to illustrate Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix's Histoire et description generale de la Nouvelle France. It was engraved by Guillaume Dheulland. Charlevoix's history and this map, in particular, thus proved exceptionally influential as one of the most comprehensive works on North America predating the French and Indian War. Copies of the Histoire et description generale were found in the libraries of many 18th-century luminaries, including Voltaire, Franklin, and Jefferson. Jefferson especially admired Charlevoix's work, calling it 'a particularly useful species of reading' and no doubt influenced his decision to pursue the historic 1802 Louisiana Purchase, possibly the most significant event in the post-colonial history of North America. A rare 1825 map of Gran Columbia issued by Sidney Hall to illustrate Charles Stuart Cochrane's narrative of two years spent traveling there. Cochrane, a British Royal Navy officer, traveled to Columbia in 1823, when the new Republic was at its height, just one year after the Constitution of Cúcuta and before infighting began to tear the vast territory apart. His goal was to secure a trading privilege to improve its pearl fisheries. This is one of the earliest maps of Gran Columbia published at the Republic's peak. (more details)

This is a 1933 U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey geologic map of the Girdwood District in Alaska. The map accompanies a report published by the U.S. Department of the Interior commissioned to investigate mineral deposits in 9 different regions along the route of the Alaska Railroad. These studies hoped to discover deposits of sufficient magnitude that their exploitation would help the Alaska Railroad become profitable.
