This is a beautiful 1903 British Admiralty nautical chart or maritime map depicting the island of Saint Croix (Santa Cruz) in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Unlike most Admiralty charts, a surprising level of inland detail is presented here. Both Frederiksted and Christiansted are labeled and illustrated with streets and city blocks. Homesteads across the island are identified as well, many of which are marked by windmills. Major roads are also included. Myriad depth soundings are noted all along the island's coast and extend east of the island to Lang Bank. A detailed inset map of Christiansted city and harbor is situated in the lower right corner. This is an 1871 John Bute Holmes cadastral map of the Upper East Side in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. Constructed in an unusual manner, the map depicts the Upper East Side along a diagonal that stretches from Ninety-Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue to Seventy-Fourth Street and Avenue B. New York's now famous grid system acts as the base, along with the lots that were created by the 1811 Commissioner's Plan, which allows the neighborhood's evolution to be illustrated. One such detail is Fourth Avenue. Here, dashed lines mark the present sides of the avenue, several feet into the lots on either side. A large former estate is illustrated between Eightieth Street and Seventy-Eighth Street. (more details)

The 1776 Francois Santini Venice edition of Joseph Nicolas De l'Isle's extraordinary 1752 map of North America, Siberia, the Arctic, and the North Pacific. The map is a study in contrasts, setting J. N. De L'Isle's accurate mapping of the Asian northeast based on data absconded from the Russian 'Academy of Sciences', against J. N. Buache's speculations on the feasibility of a Northwest Passage. Among other points, this map is significant for reviving the 'Sea of the West' hypothesis, and must be considered one of the most influential maps of the region issued in the mid-18th century.
